My 1st Years Backpack Review

Reviewed by Helen Wyatt

We were lucky enough to be chosen to review a My 1st Years Backpack recently, which came just in time for our holidays! My 1st Years offers personalised gifts for babies and young children, and their website shows a huge range from dressing gowns, to backpacks, storage, towels, ride on toys and several others.

The infant backpacks are the perfect size for small people with dimensions of H: 30cm x W: 25cm x D: 12cm. They are made of study polyester with a nylon grab handle. The rear of the backpack is padded for comfort, they have padded and adjustable straps and come with both a front zip pocket and a main zipped compartment.

The quality of the backpacks is excellent. They seem super sturdy for little handles to carry around and seem that the stitching won’t come loose at the first sign of trouble. The zippers are reinforced with stitching which is reassuring as often the zip is the first thing to go on a kid’s bag!

We opted for a camouflage pattern bag, which is really funky, but there are a nice number of styles to choose from: including the Special Limited Edition British Airways Mini Adventurer backpack (RRP: £25 to help celebrate British Airways’ centennial year. In the infant backpacks alone you could choose space, koala and friends, stars, pink, blue, grey, and camo. There are other sizes also with the bags coming in both mini (H:26cm x W:22cm x D:10cm) and junior (H: 43cm W: 30cm D: 13cm). There are also drawstring bags, suitcases and lunch bags.

You can choose free personalisation with your items of up to 9 characters. Luckily my daughter’s name is exactly 9 characters so that was perfect for us! The personalisation is really good quality and is flocked so it raised to the touch. There is a choice not to personalise if you like, but it’s included in the price of each item.

Each item comes with a lovely FREE gift box also. Ours was a solid blue cardboard box which will be really useful for storage. There was a nice touch of a summer activity pack included also which is great for younger kids, including dot to dot, colouring, and spot the difference. Really useful to keep the kids occupied on trips.

We were really impressed with the bag, and most importantly my daughter was eager to use it straightaway! It is the perfect size for travelling in the car as she can fit books, colouring pencils and her kindle in it easily but it’s not too heavy and doesn’t take up loads of space. It will also be great to take out with us when we go out and about on our trips or even for young children starting school or going back to school after the holidays.

I would be glad to recommend this bag and company to my friends and family. I would also not limit the gifts to young children alone as although this is who they are aimed at, I would be very happy with a personalised mini backpack of my own in koala print!

The infant backpacks are £22 each, with the remaining bags coming in the range of £18-36. I would be happy to pay this price for this bag as I feel sure it is going to last, unlike cheap and badly made other bags.
