Dirty Dancing at the Alhambra Theatre Bradford Review

28 January to 2 February 2019

Dirty Dancing is back! Exploding with heart-pounding music, breath-taking emotion and sensationally sexy dancing.

It’s the summer of 1963, The Houseman’s holiday at the Kellerman resort, where a 17 year olds eyes fall upon the camps sexy dance instructor Johnny, this is the holiday where Baby does have the time of her life!

Cast. Michael o’Reilly – Johnny Castle, Kira Malou – Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman, Simone Covele – Penny Johnson, Lynden Edwards – Dr Jake Houseman, Lori Haley Fox – Marjorie Houseman, Lizzie Ottley – Lisa Houseman, Alex Wheeler – Billy Kostecki, Jack McKenzie – Max Kellerman, Colin Charles – Tito Suarez.

Featuring ‘KELLERMANS BAND’ Kieran Kuypers, Ben Mabberley & Miles Russell.

The scenery is set using all areas of the stage that swiftly changes from hotel, to restaurant, to night club, to bedrooms, the way they set some of the scenes using a translucent video screen is absolutely amazing, you will actually see the practice lift in the lake!!

The sound is loud and clear and the lighting really adds to the feel of the performance (some flashing lighting).

The actors are all stars of the shows in their own way, with amazing dance moves, the leg splits make you go ooh, I had goosebumps from the immense singing and music not forgetting the live band, all has you foot tapping, clapping, singing along, plenty of side splitting laughter, and cheering  at the rememberable highlights “Nobody puts Baby in a corner”.

This production keeps you entertained from start to finish. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the show, it was a spectacular performance and would highly recommend it!

The Alhambra is a traditional theatre, the main theatre building is modern with bright lights which not only look fabulous but makes the building easy to find. You are welcomed by friendly smiling staff, who are more than happy to help in whatever way they can. Bag searches were carried out on entry into the main foyer. On the ground floor there is a ticket kiosk and a kiosk for purchasing soft drinks and sweets. On the first floor there is an impressive bar/cafe area, also a merchandise kiosk selling Dirty Dancing t-shirts and hoodies as well as other memorabilia. The venue has disabled parking onsite to the left of the buildings entrance it says no entry but there is a buzzer system to allow entry. There are plenty of carparks within a couple of minutes walking distance from the venue, one on Sharpe Street which is just up the hill from the Alhambra. If using an NCP car park, if you inform the ticket office on arrival they give you an additional parking ticket to enable a discount on your parking fee.

Absolutely fantastic! Have the time of your life and go see!
