Spongebob Moves In App Review

Spongebob Moves In App

Reviewed by Lee-Anne McCarthy with Caitlin Age 9

When we heard we were able to review the latest Spongebob Squarepants app for the iPad and iPhone excitement was an understatement. We are a household that merrily embraces the amazing developments in technology even our 16 month old twins knowing how to turn on the iPad. However as any responsible parent screen time is closely monitored and when Caitlin heard she was going to be able to review this app therefore allowing for extra iPad time she was very pleased. Spongebob Squarepants is also a character well known to us and the prospect of playing his latest game led to great anticipation. As a parent who has always been a fan of nickelodeon I had high expectations for their game and the development of story which I hoped would provide some educational value in a fun filled format.

I played the game on a number of devices and the initial load time for the game is quite lengthy in comparison to like games the children and I play on our devices. Once loaded the game itself is a simulation game that replicates Bikini Bottom and the player follows a series of instructions to complete quests and build up the town. In a parents opinion it does require a fairly reasonable level of reading ability in order to read all the given instructions. However I have also been informed that I ‘play like an old person’. Apparently for those young and technologically you don’t need to read they just know. So as an old person who avidly reads the instructions I shall continue the review. You complete series of quests like growing lettuce, making toast in order to build up a pot of virtual money that you then may use to purchase buildings for Bikini Bottom. Along the way we were able to also unlock short videos which in some cases were quite amusing. The music although typically Spongebob was a tad on the annoying side however that’s easily switched to mute if needs be. There are opportunities in the game to purchase add-ons that can rack up a bill on your iTunes account. It is therefore important for parents to set up parental controls to ensure that supplementary costs are avoided. The app makers have kindly included a reminder of this at the downloading of the game. As a fan of games like these it is a pretty good simulation game that provides young people with a light hearted easy play with opportunities to develop and enhance their reading skills.

So out with old fuddy duddy reader and here is the 9 year old who just knows all about the game.

I think that Spongebob Squarepants is cool so when I heard I could play Spongebob on the iPad I was really excited. The game is very colourful. It did take a long time to load. It’s a fun game that I can cook on. I could build buildings. The pictures were really good. They stand out. You could earn movies and they were really funny. The instructions could have been a little shorter as there was quite a lot of writing to read at once. Maybe they should split the text up a bit more. I liked playing Spongebob Squarepants Moves In because it was fun.
