Based on the book "One Shot" by Lee Child, this film starts with the distressing scene of a lone gunman taking the lives of five innocent people. The perpetrator is then caught, or at least so you're led to believe. Just before he's sent to prison (and put in a coma by his inmates), he writes the name of one man on a piece of paper. Enter Jack Reacher (Tom Cruise).
It soon becomes apparent that everything is not as it seems with the innocence of the gunman called in to question. The lawyer sent to defend him, Helen (Rosamund Pike) seeks to find the answers which will find her client innocent or guilty – much to the disapproval of her father, the D.A, especially when she employs Reacher's services.
Cruise plays a fascinating character and the screenplay keeps you intrigued, never being quite sure who is on which side of the law. Captivating, entertaining, enthralling and action-oriented throughout this movie had us literally gripped from the outset with lots of twists and turns even right to the very end.
Great film.
