Haven Holidays
Come rain or shine
Spring is just around the corner and Easter holidays only six weeks away so where better to take the family than a trip to the seaside. Haven holidays are the first to admit that you can't rely on the British weather and have some great suggestions on how to make the most of your spring break. In fact they say there’s no such thing as bad weather as long as you're prepared – so when you’re packing your sun hats and sun cream make sure you pack your wellies and a raincoat too!
5 things to do when the sun shines:
-
Head for the beach to fly a kite, have a game of rounders or simply throw down a couple of jumpers and have a game of footie and before you go home why not do a spot of beachcombing.
-
Get the kids away from the TV and computer games and take them along to the multi sports courts to join in a whole range of activities including free football coaching.
-
Pack up a picnic and go for a spring walk along the coast, choose a park in Dorset or Devon and walk in the footsteps of dinosaurs. You can also take the kids along to join the Wildlife Detectives in a rainbow walk which takes place on all Haven parks.
-
Go for a cycle ride you can take your own bikes and scooters or hire some when you get there. If your kids haven't learnt to ride a bike yet why not sign them up for a learn2bike session. Balance bikes are great for building kids confidence and will have them riding a two wheeler in no time.
-
Go down to the sea to peer in rock pools or a river and take a look under the water. The increased light levels on a sunny day mean you can see so much more.
5 things to do when it doesn’t!
-
Take the kids along to the heated indoor pool many have slides and flumes for extra excitement. Take toddlers to a free water confidence sessions and free fun inflatables for the older kids. But if you want to try something a little bit different you can have a go at Water Walkerz, Aqua jets, Mini jet skis , Aqua glider and Turbo paddlers.
-
Join in one of the many activity workshops taking place in the kids clubs including hoopin' and circus skills or get creative with arts and crafts and messy morning. There are different activities for different ages every day.
-
Fishing – yes it IS better to go fishing when it’s raining! For many reasons you’re more likely to catch fish in the rain. (Higher oxygen levels help to raise activity levels & lower visibility in the water means they’re more likely to come to the surface as they won’t be able to see you, plus increase in nutrients gets the worms active which sends fish into a feeding frenzy.)Allhallows in Kent, Burnham on sea, Somerset, The Orchards in Essex are just some of the parks that have coarse fishing lakes just make sure you take your rod licence
-
Welly Walks – grab your favourite pair of wellies & go splashing in the puddles! Go to the beach pebbles & rocks take on some wonderful colours when they’re wet. When’s the last time you tried to catch some raindrops on your tongue or lean into the wind? Go on – it’s fun!
-
Fossil Hunting: whether it’s washing away the clay or just wetting the rocks to reveal fossils that are more easily seen when the contrast between the fossil & surrounding rock is more pronounced – a rainy day is the perfect time to go looking for fossils. Why not pop along to Wildlife Detectives and make your own fossil.
When the sun goes down the evening entertainment takes over and it’s time to sit back and relax after a full day of fun and activity. Family short breaks start at just £79 for a four night break or £88 for a three night break at selected parks and dates in March/April.
