My 3 year old daughter loves Princesses, so what better way to spend a family-friendly afternoon, than to take her along to see Princess Live! at Lighthouse, Poole this afternoon, when it stopped off for the day as part of Darling Production UK’s national tour.

Billed as the ultimate magical princess pop party, this show certainly lived up to the hype. We were introduced to no less than five of our favourite fairy tale Princesses in this all-singing, all-dancing concert show. We were introduced to Snow White, Belle from Beauty & the Beast, Rapunzel, Cinderella and Elsa (known during this performance as the Snow Queen).

Based on the premise that the princesses are tired of their royal duties, they decide to come together to form the ultimate pop girl group. Cinderella’s famous fairy godmother has given her a magic wand to restyle her Princess friends with a whole new look for their band.

With just a swoosh of her magic wand, Cinderella transforms the Princesses into a more modern, pop idol version of themselves, but keeping in theme with their traditional fairy tale costumes.

They decide to hold a competition to determine who is going to lead the band, asking the audience to vote for who should win, when each princess takes it in turns to sing a song, which represents them. The show features some brilliant pop and musical theatre songs, which everyone knows, such as Katy Perry’s ROAR and Dua Lipa’s Dance The Night, so there was plenty of opportunity to sing and dance along.

I really loved how the lyrics to popular songs were cleverly updated to tell the Princesses stories, such as when Snow White sang Little Mix’s Black Magic and alluded to the poison apple. It was really clever and humorous, with Snow White believing that she should be the lead singer, as she nearly died from the poison apple. It reminded me of a children’s version of the musical SIX!

I also really liked the message that was conveyed, that we are all different and all have something different to offer the world; no one is more important than the other and what a boring place the world would be, if we were all the same. Such an important message for the young audience to hear.

There was an opportunity for everyone to get to their feet and join in with the party which saw everyone partying and a great atmosphere. There was even fireworks on the stage at various points throughout the show.

It was so lovely to see the majority of the youngsters dressed up as their favourite Princesses, having a brilliant time. What was even more special, was that after the show, there was a fantastic opportunity to have a photo taken with all of the characters from the show, which so many people took up the opportunity to do.

The show ran for almost an hour, which was a perfect length given the age of the young audience. It was so enjoyable; it went by in a flash.

Tickets cost just £13.20, which I think is fantastic value for a show and the post-show photo opportunity. This is a show not to be missed by any budding future pop stars!
