I am not lying when I say that our fridge and cupboards at home are full of more condiments than food, with hot and spicy sauces being not just a favourite, but a necessary accompaniment to a savoury meal for my partner. When it comes to sauces, the hotter and spicier the better so we, particularly my partner, were extremely excited to trial three hot sauces from Casa Firelli.
The sauces are packaged in attractive 148ml recyclable, glass bottles which are almost tear-drop shape and just shy of 20cm in height. I really liked the bright, turquoise label and lid which was eye-catching against the burgundy sauce in the bottles and made the bottles ‘pop’ when set amongst other condiment bottles.
Casa Firelli is made in Italy, a country renowned for its tasty cuisine, and so you expect that you will get a sauce full of different flavours. Thankfully, we were not disappointed! The sauces are made from authentic Italian ingredients including Italian roasted red peppers, spicy Calabrian chili peppers, balsamic vinegar, porcini mushrooms and natural herbs and spices. The sauces are gluten free which is reassuring if you are gluten intolerant, and they are also low in calories and low in cholesterol so you can ensure that you can add flavour and spice to any meal, no matter your diet or lifestyle.
The first sauce we sampled was the original hot sauce. This sauce had a nice flavour and was your ‘everyday’ hot sauce. It would be a good accompaniment to a variety of different foods; we particularly enjoyed it with home-cooked potato wedges and southern fried chicken. The label on the bottle stated this hot sauce as being ‘three out of five’ flames in terms of heat and gave it a ‘medium’ rating.
The second sauce we sampled was the ‘extra-hot’ hot sauce. This sauce had a similar taste to the original sauce but was a bit spicier, it had a bit more of a kick! The label on the bottle stated this hot sauce as being ‘four out of five’ flames on the heat scale and gave it a ‘hot’ rating.
The third sauce we sampled was the truffle hot sauce. This sauce was the only sauce packaged in an opaque, black bottle. The sauce had a unique, strong flavour, different to anything we have tasted before and was very overpowering – be careful what you eat it with and where you locate it on your plate! The label on the bottle stated this hot sauce as being ‘three out of five’ flames in terms of heat and gave it a ‘medium’ rating.
In conclusion, our favourite sauce was the Casa Firelli ‘extra-hot’ hot sauce as it was packed with flavour and could spice up a variety of savoury dishes including pizza, fajitas, a cooked breakfast, sandwiches and salads. If you have a hot sauce lover in your circle of friends or family, I would recommend this set of three Casa Firelli hot sauces.
