Oh my, where do I start with this review! From the minute I opened the parcel and saw this book I instantly fell in love with it! It’s bright, bold and eye catching for young children and adults alike. It made me want to pick it up and read it to see what the story was all about so you can imagine how excited my little one was. It’s thrilling seeing your name on a page, let alone the title of a book.

From the moment I accessed BeHeld.com I was excited to learn more about this company. They offer a fantastic paragraph on their front-page outlining what the books are all about – ‘Our thought-provoking personalised children’s books activate a child’s understanding of their developing character. They’ll journey to thrilling new worlds, discover hidden life-lessons and return better informed to everyday life.’ Who wouldn’t want to encourage their children to read fun stories about themselves whilst learning to navigate different experiences?

I was lucky enough to be able to pick my own book and chose from one of nine different stories that are available. The books cover a wide range of themes like empowerment, independence, confidence, diversity, and respect to name a few. The covers of each book look really inviting to young readers and each is personalised with their name which helps to maximise children’s engagement in the story. The books are created around 2 parallel stories. One of adventure and one of an everyday occasion but both personalised to your child.

In our book *** (editor’s note – name removed) is a captain in search of her treasure. At first, she is worried as all the other captains are searching for the treasure too but as the story unfolds, she learns the hard way who she can or can not trust. By the end of the story, she had taken her own path and found the treasure without the help of others. I loved how the story ended with Captain *** (editor’s note – name removed) sharing the treasure with the other pirates. *** (editor’s note – name removed) loves to include other children in all activities, so she really identified with the book, and I loved to hear her saying ‘look mummy it’s me!’

The illustrations throughout the book are truly brilliant and empathise the feelings of Captain *** (editor’s note – name removed) in her facial expressions, as well as those of the other captains who are trying to trick her. As we were reading the story *** (editor’s note – name removed) was picking out certain characters and talking about whether they were good or bad people and if they’d be helping her to find the treasure. It was lovely to see how well she was interacting with the book and a great conversation starter to talk about different feelings too.

After reading this book with *** (editor’s note – name removed) I’d love to get more for her to help her in the journeys in life she must take. In the search for unique and unusual gifts a personalised book would make a wonderful keepsake gift for children at Christmas or birthdays and be something that they can enjoy night after night.
