Zizzi Piccadilly Manchester Review

Piccadilly, Manchester

I absolutely love Italian food so I was delighted to have the opportunity to review Zizzi Piccadilly in the centre of Manchester.

My husband, my four year old granddaughter and I travelled to Manchester City Centre to visit Zizzi on a busy weekday lunchtime. I was rather apprehensive about finding a suitable parking spot, but we easily parked the car in a safe side street within walking distance of the restaurant. We could also have used the nearby multi-storey car park. The bus and metro link stops are directly opposite and within easy reach.

On entering Zizzi, we were warmly welcomed by a member of staff who showed us to our table. My granddaughter was given a colouring sheet and crayons to keep her amused and we were shown the menu. We selected our drinks, which were served immediately. My husband had a bottled cider, my granddaughter had apple juice and I chose plain tap water.

My husband is a great seafood lover and chose his starter of Frito Misto from the main menu. This comprised of king prawns, calamari, whitebait, peppers, artichokes and courgettes, lightly battered and served in a chilli, lemon, parsley and aioli dip. He said it was absolutely delicious. My granddaughter and I shared a platter of beautifully crisp garlic bread, seasoned with rosemary.

For his main course, my husband opted for Spiedini Pescatore, which was a beautifully presented skewer of king prawns, salmon, sea bream, peppers and courgettes, served with Tuscan potatoes. He said it tasted amazing. I chose Pollo Proscuitto, which was tender chicken breast, wrapped in prosciutto ham and sage, in a white wine sauce, served with wonderfully crisp green beans and Tuscan potatoes. I never realised that I could be so enthusiastic about a humble green bean before, but the flavour of them was so delicate and scrumptious that I was smitten. I was particularly happy that my entire dish contained less than 600 calories. My granddaughter had the Pepperoni Pizza from the Bambini menu and enjoyed every mouthful.

For desert my husband chose the yummy Tartufo, which was a rich dark chocolate mousse, with crushed hazelnuts and amaretti biscuits, while I opted for the delicious Tiramisu. My granddaughter chose two scoops of Strawberry Sorbet from the Bambini menu and relished every spoonful.

Zizzi is a modern and spacious restaurant with an open plan kitchen area. It was fun to be able to watch pizzas being prepared and cooked in the huge oven. I am quite fussy, but I found the entire meal to be amazing. I honestly could not fault a single thing. The staff were knowledgeable, attentive and courteous, frequently asking if everything was to our satisfaction and ensuring that my young granddaughter was happy and comfortable.

I found the prices to be very reasonable. The whole dining experience was extremely pleasurable and I will definitely recommend it to my friends. I can’t wait to return soon for another delicious meal!
