I was gifted a bottle of Wise Wolf Rose Pays D’oc France 2022 wine to review.
The first thing that strikes you is the elegantly different glass bottle. It’s definitely a keeper, if you soaked the label off it would make a great water bottle for dinner parties or an ornament with pretty lights in as a feature on your table. The label lets you know it’s made from 100 percent post consumer recycled glass and all their packaging is 95.1 percent recycled materials. The company is also carbon neutral certified. All good to hear for those of us who are environmentally minded. There is no cork either, this is a screw top bottle.
I was once told the paler the rose the better the wine. This is very much true of this delightful find. My palate if often offended by wines that my husband loves, so it’s a rare occasion that we both agree, it’s very very nice. It’s what I would consider a dry light wine, and was very agreeable eaten with our Chinese style evening meal this evening.
Wise Wolf is a new brand from Hardy’s Banrock Station of Australia, and boasts the Rose, a Chardonnay and a Cabernet Sauvignon all launched in June 2022. The wine itself originates from the Languedoc-Roussillon region in the South of France, by Accolade Wines based in Kent. I will be looking to taste the other bottles in the set such is the quality of the rose. Of course, everyone’s tastebuds are different and we all look for different things in a wine, but we most definitely would look to purchase this for ourselves and our friends to drink. In these trying times we all want value for money and depending on where you buy this particular bottle of wine it ranges from between £8.50 to £12 per bottle, which is quite good for a decent bottle of wine.
The wine is alcohol 12.5 percent volume and the bottle equates to 9.4 units of your weekly 14 units. The wine can be kept for up to two years, although who keeps their wine that long, certainly not me!! It’s certainly fresh and fruity with maybe a hint of strawberry. I can imagine perfect on a sunny weekend in the summer, especially if you were barbecuing, it would go down extremely well. It’s hard to find anything not to like about this wine, a brand that takes its environmental policy clearly very seriously, a great style of bottle (for that alone worth a try) and a light refreshing taste that it’s hard to think wouldn’t go well alongside most dinners. We should all at least once a month buy a selection of wines that we have never tried before because you don’t know what you don’t know, if you don’t try you don’t know if you don’t like it. I will definitely be picking some up as gifts for my wine loving friends for Christmas, hopefully they will feel e same as I do about this great new find.
