I recently received the WeeRide Balance Bike for review. The balance bike was really quick and easy to assemble and is manufactured to a high standard. It has a soft comfy adjustable seat, lovely shiny paintwork and soft grip handles.

Balance bikes are a newer thing for children to use. I’ve not had them for my older children so this was a new experience for me with my nearly 3 year old twins.

The difference between a balance and a regular bike is that a balance bike has no pedals, so children propel themselves by just pushing their feet on the ground.

The WeeRide Balance Bike is lightweight weighing only 3.75kg making it very easy for my children to hold. It has an easy step through frame (no crossbar) so they can get on and off quickly and easily. It has air tyres, with angled valves for easy inflation on 10” wheels. It is also equipped with a rear brake so is safe. And for when they are just starting to learn it has a handle on the back of the seat so that parents can hold on to which helps the children keep their balance or just to keep them going in a straight line. The seat is also adjustable from 35-45cm so has room for growth.

Once my twins started using it they knew what to do straightaway. We didn’t have to teach them. They just got the hang of it. It’s a really smooth ride and I can see from the beginning that “running” with their legs while sitting on it will quickly turn into freewheeling and balancing.

I would really recommend one of these as a first bike for your younger children. I can see how it will help them learn to ride a pedal bike without having to use stabilisers.
