The Go-Anywhere BBQ arrived as a self-assembly item. This was not a problem, as the instructions were clear, and step by step. Weber had also made the job easier by including a handy little tool, to use as a spanner, which helped to unscrew and tighten the nuts to the bolts that were already pre attached to the handle.
The legs needed to be fitted onto the main base of the BBQ, but again the instructions made this simple to follow, once you understood the clever design feature that the legs play. They can pivot from the standing position to be used to lock the lid in place, making the product able to be portable when not in use, hence the ‘Go-Anywhere’. There is a small catch that secure the legs at both the standing point and in the locked position, this is detachable, so I would be mindful not to lose this, as it plays an important role.
The main body of the BBQ comes in two parts; its base contains, a tray that neatly fits into the bottom and two grates, the first is a heavy-duty fuel grate, that can withstand high temperatures, this fits at a lower level and is a close-knit mesh that holds the charcoal and then there is the cooking grate, it sits flush on the surface of the base. Both are made from plated steel, that Weber say they are ‘durable, easy to clean, and retain heat for even and consistent barbecuing’. The lid has the glass-reinforced nylon handle and rust-resistant aluminium dampers. They act as air-vents, that can be adjusted to control the temperature, giving complete heat control without having to lift the lid, and be completely closed off to cut the oxygen supply, when you have finished cooking and want to extinguish the flames, allowing the charcoal to cool down before emptying.
The overall size is 53cm high, 37cm deep and 31cm wide. The cooking area is 42cm by 26cm. It is a very sturdy, well-made product that will last a long time. The weight is 6.78kg which is quite heavy, so I wouldn’t want to carry it too far. However, it is perfect for transporting in the car or on a trolley if going for a picnic or camping.
There are several accessories that can be purchased from Weber, to enhance your barbecuing experience and currently they have an offer of buy 3 accessories and get a free bamboo brush, they also offer free delivery on purchases over £95. The website contains information on registering your barbecue, spare parts and warranty information.
I am really looking forward to warmer days ahead, when I will make good use of this barbecue and enjoy eating ‘al-fresco,’ at the beach and the allotment. I think the lid is an excellent safety feature that sets it apart from a disposable BBQ, although one of these would initially be cheaper, the years of use that you will get from this quality product, makes the investment well worthwhile.
