Good old fashion boogie woogie blues, I found it hard to resist the temptation to jump up in and start jiving in the aisle. Impeccably dressed in their trademark matching blue suits the band looked and sounded the part.
King Pleasure has a fantastic voice, very bluesy and harking back to classic rock and roll. It is hard to remember at some point when watching the band, that this is a home-grown British band and not American’s. Light-hearted comedy came from Shark Van Schtoopwho on the double bass who to me resembled Penfold from Danger Mouse. I stifled more than one giggle at his antics, playing his bass like a guitar and checking his phone. But at the foundations are a band and singer who are really seriously good.
It was a really mixed audience, international and from age range, showing the band wide range of appeal. My favourite numbers of the evening had to be Shake, Rattle and Roll, One More Drink and Roll With Me Baby, I was impressed to hear that they had supported him on a tour in Scandinavia.
There was a good smattering of audience participation including a fantastic rendition of ‘Tequilla’ which kept me bopping in my head for most of the night. I would love to see them again, maybe in a smaller venue with a bigger dance floor. I am going to follow them on social media to keep an eye out for their next Manchester gig. Even if you don’t think that this genre of music is your thing, I would totally recommend that you give them a go. I would defy anyone to come out of a show by King Pleasure without a smile on your face. It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening. A totally resounding 5 out of 5.
