The New Parents Fun by Kelly and David Sopp Review

Reviewed by Stacey Struthers

We loved this book.

At first we thought this was just a humorous book about parenting, with some well-observed games and puzzles. However, this book has a more serious purpose, by completing the tasks you are building “a keepsake that illustrates exactly how you felt, how you looked and how you laughed yourselves silly throughout Baby’s first year”.

As a new parent, I am aware how easy it is to forget the first few months and my friends with older children remember very little about their first year. This book is essentially a journal of the first year, which you can build in a simple and fun way. Once complete it will be something amazing to look back on and something your child will cherish.

There are some great ideas, some of our favourites are:

  • Baby’s exciting Day – Jot down what happens during one random day in your baby’s busy life. Don’t miss a single burp!
  • The book of firsts – first night home, first bath, first swim etc
  • Parts List – Dad’s eyes. Mom’s ears. Grandpa’s butt. Label whose genes make up Baby’s best features.
  • There are places to stick photos e.g. Baby’s first hairdo, My reaction when mom told me she was pregnant (dad).

This book would make a perfect baby shower or birth present, or even a fabulous Christmas present!

Just one thing to note, this is an American book and as such has terms such as diapers, butt, mom and quarters.

The book arrived beautifully gift wrapped.
