The Embankment Bedford Review

The Embankment

If you're looking for a friendly, sociable environment to enjoy an evening meal with friends then look no further than The Embankment in Bedford. Located alongside a beautiful river setting of the River Ouse, this 19th Century building is bursting with character and a menu to set your pallet a'tingle! Once the family home of the famous Charles Wells family, this newly refurbished pub, restaurant and hotel, breathes life in to this old building and awaits your visit.

With a vast menu and specials board which includes extensive meal options from wild boar to moules marinière and traditional roasts you would find it hard not to find something to tickle your taste buds. And, if you have room, you can enjoy one of their delicious desserts washed down with a freshly made choice of coffee or after dinner tipple from a wide variety drinks menu.

Children are welcome with a "half sized" menu option and parties of different sizes are catered for, perfect if you're starting to think about the Christmas "do". But it doesn't end there!  If you want a more romantic or exclusive meal for special guests, there is a private dining area, also perfect for family functions, weddings and get togethers. And if the journey home seems too much after such a hearty meal, you can try one of their gorgeous premium rooms with river side view.

Seating in the main restaurant had a slightly "communal" feel to it, with bench seating along two of the main walls – it would be difficult not to feel you were eating with the people on the next table next with it being so close by. However, there were plenty of standalone tables and we got to pick a quiet corner (the bar can get noisy) to enjoy our glorious feast. Happy, chatty staff and soft, appropriate, mood lighting added to an overall extremely pleasant dining experience.
