The Glenn Miller Story, with a live 16 piece swing orchestra along with a company of singers, dancers and actors, tells the life story of one the most iconic and successful musicians from the 1930s, capturing all the glamour and style of this post war era.
This will be my shortest review as there is very little that needs to be said about Tommy Steele, the cast and the band in tonight’s performance at the spectacular Bristol Hippodrome. The Chronicle sums it up on the large advertisement board, hanging on the front of the theatre, in one word….”PERFECT”. It absolutely is. No other words are needed. I could wax lyrical about every aspect of this masterpiece but it would all add up to the same conclusion. What an incredible performance by everyone involved.
Tommy Steele is the consummate performer who appeared to have thoroughly enjoyed every moment on the stage tonight. And so did we. He was phenomenal from the moment he appeared to the very end. Sarah Soetaert, who played Helen, Miller’s wife, was totally mesmerising with a voice beyond compare. The dancers and supporting cast members all played their roles brilliantly, with not a step out of place and the sensational band transported us back in time with their wonderful production.
The numerous set changes and lighting arrangements were stunning and really took our breath away. The costumes, make-up, hair and choreography throughout were absolutely spot on.
Do not miss this show. I cannot recommend it highly enough and we are so lucky to have witnessed such a first class performance in our town.
