Willows Activity Farm is located just off the M25, Junction 22 in London Colney, St Albans. Upon arriving the first thing I spotted is that there seems to be a lot more going on there than just some animals on a farm. We were lucky enough to get a preview of the spring event that will be happening during the half term school holidays from the 23-31 May, this included sheep shearing and a horse and pony show. Visiting the farm with me was my 5 month old, 2 year old, husband and the grandparents, so a real family day out. The staff we met upon arrival and throughout the day were extremely friendly and helpful.

The farm looked amazing and not only were the children excited but so were the adults! The different areas on the farm are labelled with numbers which I assume make it easy to find them on a map; we did not see a map as we were shown around.

The first activity that we went to see was sheep shearing; we were first greeted by Woolly the farm mascot. He came over to say hello to the children and gave us a chance to take photos before he walked us down to the sheep shearing area where we met Tuck the sheep shearer from New Zealand. He explained the olden day methods of sheep shearing and the new methods before grabbing a sheep to shear. He was very entertaining and did amazingly to show us a large sheep sheared in one large piece, showing us the fleece once he had finished.

The next activity on the Spring Event is the horse and pony show, featuring an adorable little pony called Amy. I have to say this was the cutest thing ever! The performance was brilliant and I was really impressed, forget the dancing dog on Britain’s Got Talent go see the horse and pony show at Willows Farm.

Aside from the Spring Event, Willows Farm has acres of fun both indoor and outdoor from the young learner drivers area, a must for any small child especially those into diggers and JCB’s, the animal feeding area, the country funfair, build ‘n play sandpit, to the indoor soft play area which is the best I have seen. There is so much to do I really would advise going from the time it opens just to fit everything in. There is café area where you can sit and have a bite to eat and drink whilst the children go wild in the soft play area. There is also a separate area for under 2’s and toddlers. Willows Farm also hosts birthday parties, where each child is given a goody bag as part of the party.

The cost of the Spring Event may initially sound like a lot but when you consider everything you get for the money it is money well spent, and you really do get a lot for your money. If you live nearby or within a local travelling distance it is worth considering a membership as Willows Farm has events running throughout the year and even when there isn’t an event there is so much to do you could visit to do all the other activities.

I will definitely be going back with my family and friends and will be recommending it to everyone we know. We loved it so much we will be getting a membership! Willows Farm gets 5 out of 5 from the whole family.
