‘Goldie Blox and the Spinning Machine’ intrigued my 7 year old daughter simply on seeing the box, she pulled it out from under a table, literally with a squeal, never mind that it was bed time, we had to start it straight away!

The pretty packaging shows a range of fun looking characters as well as a board, cogs, ribbon and other accessories. Everything about this product is high quality, including the box and the well thought out design for how it’s all packaged allowing for everything to packed neatly away in between being played with.

On opening the box, we searched for the instructions but only found the accompanying story book so started on that first and it’s a good job we did! Very cleverly, the instruction book IS the story book, beautifully woven into a creative tale. This was absolutely the highlight for my children and also prevented them from just ripping all the pieces out of the box as they listened to the story only getting out each piece as and when told to. This also allowed for each character to be introduced by name as the story went on. My daughter particularly liked the characters being part of the story as well as being able to play with them as the ‘instructions’ directed her to! As the story unfolds, you are encouraged to build on top of the board, adding cogs, wheels a, blocks, axles, ribbon and of course the characters, eventually resulting in them spinning around, just as the story shows them spinning too! This is really what makes this product so clever, the book and the activity interact perfectly and yet once read, you’re still left with a lovely high quality toy which has elements of construction and simple engineering, making it appealing to even my 9 year old son!

Even once the story is finished, sketches at the back of the book show a range of fun ideas of what to build with the pieces whilst still leaving plenty of imaginative building to be done! Even though my children are that little bit older, they both happily sit building a range of different designs and spinning the characters in as many different ways as they can!

With a RRP of £24.99, this is a little on the expensive side but is made up for in the high quality of this product. This lovely story/toy/construction/engineering set gets a five out of five from us all!
