We arrived at the impressive Savoy theatre, a beautiful original art decco building. As we approached we noticed the Dreamboys Bus parked outside the theatre which was great and gave us our first photo opportunity. The staff on arrival were exceptional, very attentive and willing to assist. We were directed to the box office where our tickets were ready for collection, a great positive start.
We made our way to a nice local pub just across the way from the theatre as the bar area was busy at the time we arrived which was about 20 minutes before the start of the show. The pub was reasonably priced but also a little busy – however it made for a good atmosphere and got us in the mood for the show.
On arrival back to the theatre we were led directly to our seats. We had good seats but at times our view was blocked by a number of ladies standing up particularly towards the end of the of the show however the atmosphere was very jovial with most people singing along and still seemed to be enjoying themselves. The Dreamboys is a touring theatre show and are known for their sexy, seductive moves and strip tease routines. In 2013 the Dreamboys were part of a Channel 4 documentary which was called Confessions of a Male stripper. The shows high viewing figures no doubt helped fuel their popularity along with their connections to Love Island in 2020 where a contestant turned Dreamboys dancer featured in another documentary titled The Life after Reality TV.
The show itself was full of lust and laughter! A great musical build up with a bit of suspense to start with as the boys Smokey silhouettes were behind screens – then they appear to raptures of screams and cheers. The boys are as you would expect extremely well-toned and are a pleasure to watch. Their dance routines are great with amazing choreography and creativity and although they didn’t actually sing themselves all the music was really catchy, you couldn’t help sing along whilst enjoying the seductive moves.
The audience participation was excellent with lots of enthusiastic and willing volunteers. It was undeniably raunchy but the boys seemed to remain respectful and each participant left the stage with a little peck on each cheek and a big smile on their faces.
There was merchandise to purchase, from mugs and candles to the usual toys you would expect to find on the table of event such as this. The prices were reasonable and the queue long so it was great to see the show being so well supported.
The queues to the toilet and bar was also extremely long but this is to be expected as it was nearly a full house. The interval was extended slightly to ensure everyone was able to get back to their seats in time for the second half, however it could have felt a long wait for the show to start again if you weren’t visiting the loo or the bar.
All in all it was a great, fun packed night with everyone leaving with a smile on their faces, just what we all need in these times.
