Last night we visited The Lowry theatre in Salford Quays, Manchester to see Sister Act the Musical. The Lowry as ever is a great place to see theatre performances, easy parking opposite the theatre. Staff are all friendly and helpful and the theatre is clean and spacious.
Sister Act the musical had a lot to live up to with the hit movie, but it certainly managed to prove it is a class act and a definite show to see.
Sister Act is a musical comedy about an extrovert night club singer Deloris Van Cartier who witnesses a murder. She is placed into witness protection and in placed in a convent as a nun, her worst nightmare.
The performance was spectacular, costumes and staging seamless in prop changes and the abundance of outfits on stage. The acting was great leaving the audience feeling part of the show with an abundance of emotions. One minute you are taken in my heartfelt lines the next you are laughing at the comical side to the show.
The singing was amazing throughout by all performers. Delores was simply delightful with a fantastic voice. The choir managed to give me goose bumps at times with the delightful music and throughout the show we felt as if we wanted to get up, dance and sing our hearts out. The brilliant performance at tonight’s opening night of Sister Act is sure to be repeated through the shows performances at The Lowry, this is a real treat not to be missed by any lover of musical theatre.
We couldn’t have had a better evening at the theatre, Sister Act rates 5 out of 5 as a fantastically funny, beautiful singing and outstanding performances. Miss it and miss out.
