Set in the grounds of Hensol Castle and just outside Cardiff, the Hensol Castle Distillery is the only UK full scale gin distillery based in a 17th century castle, and offers a full range of small-batch hand crafted gins alongside a range of gifts, distillery tours and unique experiences. Having tasted a sample of the distillery’s gin and with close family in Wales, I am sure they would love Christmas gin experience gifts at the Castle too!
The Hensol Castle Distillery is a family business, with family values for respecting the environment through being sustainable and eco-friendly, as well as for responsible drinking, which are reflected in the high quality spirits it produces. The distillery has been producing its own brands of gin since late 2021 and in a short space of time, has since won many awards, with its gin products being sold both online and in many leading supermarkets in Wales.
Modern and fun gins distilled in the cellars of a 17th Century castle – who could possibly resist and as a big fan of many different gins (!), it was a real pleasure to review the Hensol Castle Hand Crafted Small Batch Blood Orange Zest Gin.
Bright and vibrant, Hensol Castle Blood Orange Zest gin is made from fresh Mediterranean blood oranges, with a single blood orange peel being added to the perfectly balanced, award-winning juniper led, Hensol Castle Welsh Dry gin base. The result is a unique and high quality, premium distilled flavoursome gin at the top of its game – it tastes just as beautiful as it looks and would be the perfect Christmas gift!
It comes as no surprise to us to learn that the Hensol Castle Blood Orange Zest gin won a silver medal award at the London Spirits Competition in 2022. The star of the show in this fabulous gin is the bittersweet, blood orange, as it leads with citrus flavours as well as the sublimely, punchy juniper notes from the top class signature base spirit, with cassia bark and sour bite on the finish.
Highly accessible, Hensol Castle Blood Orange Zest gin would be perfect for pairing with classic tonic waters for delicious and easy drinking. With its contemporary and fun vibe, it will also appeal just as much to cocktail and spritzer drinkers – deliciously wonderful for those who love refreshing, cocktails full of strong flavours and for bartenders, guaranteed to look great at the back of the bar!
With great attention to detail, the gin comes in a gorgeous, contemporary, high quality bottle, which you could easily use decoratively if you are so inclined.
If you are looking for the perfect gift this Christmas, the Hensol Castle Blood Orange Zest gin would be the perfect gift for any gin lover, or indeed, for anyone a little late to the party and just getting into gin, it is a most delicious and easy to drink spirit. It would certainly be at the top of my Christmas list – a little hint going out to my nearest and dearest!
