With two young kids I’m always on the lookout for something to keep them entertained, especially with the seemingly never-ending summer holidays, so I jumped at the chance to review the Airbrush Plush Hair’iffic Salon Set.

The set arrived really quickly which was a massive bonus. It was shrink-wrapped in black plastic, but arrived in good condition. The box was beautifully brightly coloured and really eye-catching, which made my kids pick it up straight away and they were eager to get the box open. It was clear from the box what contents were going to be inside. The contents were well-secured, so getting it all out of the box and ready for action, fell to me.

Inside the box, we found:
• 1 large squishy plush with stylable hair
• 1 base including storage compartments and space for the hair wash basin and shower head
• 6 different coloured airbrush pens
• 1 hair dryer
• 120 stick on stencils
• 20 assorted hair accessories including beads, hair clips and hair bands
• 1 comb
• 1 towel
• 1 instruction sheet (in several different languages)

The first thing we needed to do was put 2 x AA batteries (not supplied) into the hairdryer. I left the kids to create their own hairstyling masterpiece, giving them a little assistance along the way.

We loved the fact that the Airbrush pens fit into the hairdryer and spray colour onto the plush and its hair. The stencils can be used both on the hair and the plush to create cute designs. It’s clear from the instructions that only the Airbrush pens should be used on the plush. The instructions suggest that these pens be stored either flat or cap down to prevent the ink running out of the nibs, however, I think it would be better if the storage compartments for the pens would hold the pens cap down, rather than how they currently sit (cap up).

On another note, the green pen didn’t seem to work, which is a shame.

There was a great selection of hair accessories, including clips, bands and beads, which were brilliant to create unique and funky hair styles, after the kids had coloured the hair. The only issue I found was with the loop which is used to help thread the beads onto the hair; whilst trying to thread a bead on the hair, I pulled the loop and the end snapped off. There wasn’t any guidance on how much hair can be threaded through the bead, so you just need to exercise caution with it.

After the fun of styling the plush, then came the next step – washing it off for another go. I filled the sink compartment with water, sat the plush in its salon chair and used the button to pump the water out of the shower head. Hey presto, the plush was ready to be beautified once more!

The water part seemed pretty well contained, so there wasn’t as much mess as I had expected, which, again, is always a bonus, however, I would stick to a wipeable surface, just in case there’s any spillages! It was really easy to fill the water compartment and empty once again.

The Airbrush Plush Hair’iffic Salon Set has an RRP of £27.99, which I think is reasonable for a set containing so many different elements and keeps the kids occupied for a good while. It would make a perfect birthday, Christmas or ‘just because’ gift for any young up and coming stylist or kids who just like to have some creative fun!

The product is aimed at age 6+ years, which I think is about right. My son is 7 and he could play with the plush without any assistance. Whereas my daughter, who’s nearly 4 (and not to be left out!) just needed a bit of guidance.
