British Science Week 2021 is March 5th-17th. Science was my favourite subject at school and still is, especially biology. Children are never too young to learn or be introduced to different aspects of science in their daily lives.
British Science Week is a great way to celebrate the triumphs of British Science and spark curiosity in the younger generations.
Due to my enjoyment of science, I hope this is continues with my own children. Luckily, at the moment they enjoy science and are intrigued to want to do science experiments and find things out.
The GeoSafari Jr. My Frist Microscope is specifically aimed at children age 3-7 years old. Which won the Bizzie Baby Gold Award 2020.
The microscope is chunky for small hands to hold and use, whilst been build of a robust plastic that should easily survive a drop or two by a small child. The microscope is very brightly coloured which my children found very appealing.
There is a large tray section for placing your object on to inspect. I thought this was a great feature for children as no having to place the item between slides like on a traditional microscope. It also meant that larger objects that are more child friendly size could easily be looked at. We looked at an apple slice, a strand of hair, onion and mud to name a few.
The microscope requires 3AAA batteries which are securely inserted on the bottom. The batteries are for the backlight function. This was particularly useful when looking at smaller objects. The back light is easily turned on and off via the blue button.
The eye pieces are nice and wide so that a child can easily place their eyes ready for viewing. No having to close one eye and do a sort of squint.
To zoom in and out the orange knob can be turned back and forth very easily.
The magnifcation is meant to be x8 but I’m not convinced it is any where this size, more like x1.5. This didn’t deter from the enjoyment.
I really love that the microscope is designed just for children. It is chunky for little hands and super easy to use. After a couple of minutes explaining to my 3 year old how to use it, off she went on a scavenger hunt to look for objects to place under it. She then independantly used the microscope to look at them.
She really enjoys finding all sorts of things to put under the microscope and inspect. It is her favourite thing at the moment and plays with it regularly.
She has asked if she can look under the microscope at Corona Virus. This was a proud Mummy moment, as she had listened to my homeschooling lesson on the reasons we use microscopes.
Overall I rate the Geo Safari Jr. Micro scope 4/5.
It is aimed at 3-7yrs but think it is more suitable for 3-5yrs. Due to the design and magnification. This is a great introductory microscope for children and excellent value.
