The Wild Nature calendar arrived in a cardboard envelope with the words “please handle with care” printed clearly in black which ensured that the item arrived in perfect condition. The calendar also has cardboard in the middle of it to help with maintaining the condition of it during postage. This piece of cardboard can be easily removed and placed in your recycle bin. This calendar is produced by the John Muir Trust. This is a membership based conservation charity which is dedicated to protecting and improving the wild land of our country for both wildlife and people.

I love calendars with pictures of our British wildlife or our landscapes and I am always keen to find out more about them. For me, a wall mounted calendar needs to have a large photograph and then a page for the days of each month. This calendar fitted the bill. The days of the month are all equal size on one page so there is plenty of space to jot down events, times and who is involved. The other page for each month has a photograph which comes with a title and the name of the photographer. What I also like about this calendar is the map that is below each photograph showing where in the British Isles the photograph was taken. This helps me to learn more about the geography of the country. As well as this map, below each photograph are some nature notes concerning the picture which makes an interesting read. I will not go into detail as to what photographs are present as you really need to buy the calendar for yourself. All I will state is that there is a mixture of photographs of wild places and wildlife; the wildlife comprising of both birds and mammals.

There is also information on the John Muir Trust at the beginning and the website address so you can learn more about what the trust does and perhaps take part in the John Muir Challenges which are open to individuals and families. The quality of the paper is very good, and the photographs are superbly produced with a gloss finish, so they are a pleasure to constantly look at as there is always something else to see in them.  This is the calendar for my kitchen wall next year and an ideal Christmas or Birthday gift for my daughter and son in law who love the outdoor life.

You can also buy a wild nature diary from the Trust as a ring binder with a year planner at the front then a preface, foreword and information on John Muir Trust which are then followed by stunning photographs (two page spread) of land taken by Alex Nail of Fisherfield Forest, Wester Ross; nature taken by Phil Johnson of Roe Deer; people taken by John Beatty who wrote the preface, which is an unusual photograph, plus of course the actual diary, with more photographs.

If you are buying the calendar as a gift, then the diary goes perfectly with it.
