What great news, Shrek the Musical was coming to Milton Keynes theatre!

As huge Shrek fans we were extremely excited to go and see this show. The films were always a big hit in our house as our children grew up.

We always enjoy going to Milton Keynes theatre. It is really easy to find, as every roundabout (and there are a few!) are very well sign posted. It’s in a lovely location in Central Milton Keynes, surrounded by a good selection of restaurants; so if you’re thinking of eating before the show, it’s the perfect place! I must add that if you wanted to grab an indulgent dessert after the show, we would definitely recommend Kaspa’s, which is right next door to the theatre.

As we queued to enter the theatre we could see it was very busy. Lots of people from all ages, from young children to the elderly.  The staff were very polite and friendly. They were quick to get everyone in and directed to their seats. We were really pleased with our seats, they were spacious with a fantastic view. The theatre filled up quickly. There was a nice atmosphere, you could see everyone was excited for the show to start.

The show did not disappoint. From the bright colourful costumes, changing scenes, flawless choreography, upbeat music, to the talented acting and strong vocals from all the cast. It was fabulous.

As most of you know, Shrek the Musical tells the entertaining story of a swamp dwelling grumpy but loveable Ogre, played perfectly by Antony Lawrence, who goes on a life changing adventure to reclaim the deed to his land. Joined by a wise-cracking donkey, played brilliantly by Brandon Lee Sears. Shrek rescues a feisty princess, played by the very talented Joanne Clifton and learns that real friendship and true love aren’t only found in fairy tales. Princess Fiona and Shrek sang beautifully together, and in parts were very funny too. James Gillan played Lord Farquaad brilliantly, not forgetting his guards, who were hilarious.

The pink dragon, who plays the ferocious guard was big and very beautiful. You could see the audience were fixed as Cherece Richards sang her heart out as the dragon floated around the stage. There were also great performances from other characters including Gingy, Pinocchio, The Big Bad Wolf, The Three Little Pigs, Three Blind Mice, the Ugly Duckling, White Rabbit and lots more. They were all so good but our favourite had to be Donkey, he was very funny. He had the whole audience laughing throughout.

My husband isn’t really a big fan of musical theatre but he really enjoyed the show.

In the interval we noticed merchandise being sold in the foyer and they were all reasonably priced, which was refreshing to see!

The finale had everyone up on their feet clapping and dancing and it was great to see this talented cast get a well deserved standing ovation at the end.

Shrek the Musical is a great family feel good show. It’s not to be missed or you might be green with envy!

Grab your tickets today so you and your family don’t miss out.
