Sylvanian Families Baby Mermaid Shop Review

Sylvanian Families® are such nostalgic toys which have stood the test of time – many adults will have had so much fun creating different worlds with the numerous animal families (I know I did!), and now it is time to continue to spread the joy with the children today.
I was delighted to receive the ‘Sylvanian Families Baby Mermaid Shop’, a play set which is part of the ‘World of Amusement Park Series’.
The ‘Baby Mermaid Shop’ was contained within a box measuring 28 cm x 23 cm x 6.5 cm. Many of the plastic accessories were wrapped in plastic and young children would need adult assistance to release these small pieces. The ‘shop’, shaped as a shell, arrived in two separate pieces but, again with adult support, it was easy to clip the base to the shell lid. The ‘Baby Mermaid Shop’ itself is approximately 13 cm x 13 cm and contains a small handle which makes the toy set portable, and of course all of the small pieces can be contained inside the ‘Baby Mermaid Shop’ which, when closed, means that there is less chance of any of the pieces of the play set getting lost – a bonus for all parents out there!
The Sylvanian Family character included in the play set that I received was ‘Silk Cat Baby Gilly’ – a soft, beige kitten with piercing black eyes and soft pink features, dressed in a mermaid dress complete with a large, silvery pearl on the front! The accessories which accompanied ‘Silk Cat Baby Gilly’ included a tiara, a bow headband and a wand. Gilly was perfectly colour-coordinated and really did complement the ‘Baby Mermaid Shop’. This play set was designed for children aged 3 years + and I felt this was the correct age as any young child would enjoy playing with the shop and be old enough by three, as the set did include a number of small parts.
There are other play sets available to complement the ‘Baby Mermaid Shop’ should you choose to buy a gift that can be added to on different occasions, including Baby Mermaid Castle, Ice Cream Van and Popcorn Delivery Trike – all sets are part of the Amusement Park Series.
I loved the ‘Baby Mermaid Shop’. The only thing that I would like to encourage the manufacturers to think about is the amount of plastic that was used to wrap some of the individual pieces of the play set – perhaps these pieces could be contained within paper bags or cardboard tubes.
The Sylvanian Family ‘Baby Mermaid Shop’ is an ideal Christmas or birthday present because it is the perfect gift to allow a child to use their imagination to the full extent, creating magical stories and adventures, as well as creating memories which, who knows, might then be recreated in generations to come as Sylvanian Families® seem to be here to stay!
