Sunday Night At The London Palladium Review

Sunday Night at the London Palladium
Volume One

I have just been transported back in time with Network DVD's Sunday Night at the London Palladium Volume One which was in black and white!!!

Sunday Night at the London Palladium was a television variety show which originally ran from 1955 to 1967.  The shows I watched were compered by Hughie Green, Tommy Trinder and Bruce Forsyth.

There was always the revolving stage, dancing girls and occasionally dancing boys.  The dance routines were varied, but my favourites were the ones where the girls did their high kicking routines!

Acts were also varied, ranging from a tap dancer who then performed with a lit cigarette, a dance act where the girl was used as a skipping rope, singers both in groups and solo, to comedy acrobatic acts which had me convinced they would bump into or drop each other.

Mario Lanza was top of the bill on one show and Beryl Reid on another.  A show from April 1960 had The John Barry Seven who were introduced as ‘a new noise!’ followed by a very young Adam Faith topping the bill.

Remember ‘Beat the Clock’, well that was also part of a couple of shows I watched where lucky contestants could win £200!!!  How times have changed!!!

The curtain always came down with all the performers on the revolving stage.

If you fancy a bit of nostalgia I can thoroughly recommend Sunday Night at the London Palladium!!!  I know it used to be the highlight of my Sunday Evening viewing!
