Snow White at the Milton Keynes Theatre Review

Snow White
Milton Keynes Theatre

On Tuesday 10 December we went to see Snow White at the Milton Keynes Theatre. When we arrived at the theatre we found the foyer crowded with lots of excited children waving their spinning, flashing toys around.

We collected our tickets and programmes, bought sweets and drinks for the performance and then off we went to the auditorium. By this time our 10 year old was also the owner of a spinning flashing toy!!

The curtain was wonderful, ‘SNOW WHITE, once upon a time’ looked as if it had been embroidered in gold braid, in fact the whole theatre looked great.

Very soon there was the countdown 10, 9, 8, 7………. and the performance began!

Jennifer Ellison was fantastic as the Wicked Queen, asking the rather scary magic mirror ‘who is the fairest in the land’, she was also a great dancer and singer. She is known for her role in Brookside as well as taking part in Dancing on Ice.

Herbert played by Kev Orkian ~ well we all joined his gang ~ children and grownups alike interacted with him throughout the show!

The lovely Kate Stewart as Snow White and her handsome Prince, Shaun Dalton played their parts beautifully.

The Villagers danced and sang, the musical numbers were well choreographed.

The Seven Dwarfs led by Warwick Davis ‘The Prof’ were great ~ but this is where we departed from the normal Snow White Pantomime as I know it. We didn’t have the Seven Dwarfs we all know and love, Doc, Grumpy, Happy etc… we had new ones Prof, Loopy, Cheeky etc…  There was no Dame, no female Prince Charming, no ‘He’s behind you!’ or slapstick.

Our 10 year old joined in the shouted warnings to Snow White, she booed the Wicked Queen!

Warwick Davis, famous for his roles in Star Wars and Harry Potter amongst other things, both acted in and directed Snow White.

The scenery and costumes were fantastic, the cast great, and judging by the reactions of the audience everyone enjoyed it.

We all enjoyed it, especially our 10 year old who would have loved to have been up there dancing and performing. Personally I missed the traditional aspects of the pantomime, the Dame, the slapstick etc…

Four young children who had found a ‘golden ticket’ in their programmes were invited onto the stage to sing Old MacDonald with Herbert.

I would recommend that you go and see this pantomime ~ it was slick, it was professional, it was fabulous, but different!

I would give it 5 out of 5 despite my idea of it not being the traditional panto!
