Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs arrived at the Royal & Derngate Theatre in Northampton this weekend. We arrived to the Sunday matinee performance parking reasonably close by and accessed the theatre through the designated entrance sent via email prior to the day. In no time at all we were in our seats clutching our light up sword, very reasonably priced I might say, purchased from the merchandise stall within the theatre. Our two year old grandson is amassing quite a collection this week!
This really is a fantastic Panto, all of the cast were nothing less than superb. The quality of the set and the costumes, really does show how invested this theatre is on putting on a quality show and it really is reflected on the stage. Probably the best dressed dwarfs I have seen on stage for some time, they really were great and their personalities portrayed on stage came across really well.

Who even knew what a great voice Wendi Peters of Coronation Street fame had! As the wicked Queen, she has to be one of the more glamorous we have seen, she was without doubt brilliant, and had our two year old hiding behind his hands. Prince Charming Ore Oduba can also sing, and played the part of the handsome Prince very well, along with the pretty Lauren Lane who played Snow White, they made a great pair.

Of course Panto isn’t Panto without the cheeky sidekicks, who were Nurse Nellie, played by Bob Golding, you will be very jealous of his outfits, Muddles played by Joey Wilby, who was super handsome as Snow White’s best friend, but show stealer Herman aka Marc Pickering stole the show for us. Very clever one liners had us in stitches, and his dream of being Freddie Mercury was just brilliant. Genius casting Alan Carr as the mirror, he is also very funny when summoned by those in the show. Of course like a lot of pantos, there is some adult humour, which for us, made the show. Unusually there are no water pistols and no 12 days of Christmas song, but that said, it’s one of the best pantomimes I’ve seen for a long time.

The kids adored the woodland animals on stage. There is so much to love, and I felt so much time was given to everyone, it really was a great cast, and everyone looked like they were thoroughly enjoying themselves. The children in the audience lapped it all up, and there is lots of encouragement to join in and boo and shout! Although just over two hours long with the interval, the time just flew by and before you knew it the end of the show arrives, the red wedding outfits are a sight to behold, and it was all over, oh yes it was! We absolutely loved it so much so, if we get time we will visit again before the end of the run. Kids and adults of all ages will enjoy every minute of this festive fun.
