SleepPhones Review

Reviewed by Louisa Nashir

Being a parent to a child with special needs is not an easy job but it is one of the most rewarding and I wouldn’t change my life at all.

Kate, age 8, has Autism, Learning Difficulties and a Speech and Language delay which means life can be pretty hectic most of the time and can make the simplest of tasks like eating, bath time and going to bed extremely difficult.

Kate has always had problems sleeping meaning she battles to stay awake and is often up through the night wanting to play or just to have mummy or daddy with her as she is quite anxious about being alone.

When I first saw the SleepPhones, described as pyjamas for your ears, they caught my eye as they looked comfortable and something Kate would enjoy using.

Looking at the simple to use SleepPhones website (www.SleepPhones.co.uk) I found so many types of the product but was a little concerned about a wired set as strangulation during the night was niggling away at me but the company were absolutely amazing and sent a wireless set for us to try which we are so grateful for.

Upon arrival I opened them up from their modern and smart looking easy to open packaging and found…

1 SleepPhones Wireless Headphones
1 Micro USB Charging Cable
1 Quick Guide and Care Instructions

I used my day to have a good look before Kate arrived home from school and read the enclosed information booklet with easy to follow instructions.

I charged the SleepPhones for just under 4 hours then connected them to Kate’s iPad via bluetooth which was so easy and we were ready to go.

Kate came home and immediately spotted the SleepPhones and thought they were a headband at first. The look of surprise on her face when her music files began playing to her was priceless! She looked very pleased when she realised the SleepPhones were hers to keep and since arriving has used them through the day and night.

At night time when Kate is winding down she looks so comfortable with her SleepPhones and I really do feel they are helping her to relax because of the brilliant fleece band wireless design.

I wish I had found these sooner as in the past we have woken Kate to remove her wired headphones as it wasn’t safe for her to sleep with them.

The design, as I said, is brilliant for day and night wear, I even tried them and found the material to be so soft and warm, the earphones so not dig into your head like other and the colour (Lavender) is so pretty and eye catching.

The SleepPhones are washable as the hidden earphones are removable which is brilliant, they can be used for up to 6 hours continuously before they need to be charged and can stream music from up to 30ft away, which I loved as I was able to switch Kate’s music off when she dozed without disturbing her.

Reading the packaging I noticed there are sleep enhancing MP3 downloads available on the website and even an app in the iPhone App Store. We haven’t tried these as Kate has a lot of music to get through but it’s good to know they are there should we fancy something different.

It’s safe to say my daughter is delighted with her SleepPhones and they will be used lots.
