Last night we went to the Bristol Hippodrome to see the musical Singin’ in the Rain and what a show. Believe the hype and reviews you hear and read about this production. They are so well deserved. This is an incredibly slick, non-stop, high energy show relaying the impact of sound in pictures on the silent movie stars of the day in wonderful style.

The shows kicks off at a cracking pace and continues so until it’s spectacular finale, holding the audience in its palm throughout the evening, with a glorious mixture of 20’s glamour, delightful humour, old style romance and an amazing performances by all involved.

I really was not expecting to enjoy myself as much as I did. The Bristol Hippodrome is a beautiful theatre in the centre of town and tonight everyone involved in this production from the orchestra, all the cast members, the set designers, the lighting engineers and the costume department really put on a superb show. The well-known songs including Good Morning, Make ‘em Laugh and Moses Supposes were a delight to see and hear and the opening bars of Singin’ in the Rain actually make the hairs of the back of my neck stand up. But the most impressive thing was there was no weak link in the chain throughout the night. Every moment that this wonderful cast was on stage was a feast to behold. The lead actors James Leece, Amy Ellen Richardson and Stephane Anelli were pitch perfect and fabulously elegant as they moved so gracefully about the stage. But so were all the other cast members that it almost seems unfair to single any particular character out.

If you can only pick one show to go and see this year, I recommend this one. You will not be disappointed. It is absolutely FANTASTIC.  An easy 5 stars.
