We all know the benefits of healthy eating, but sometimes, especially during the festive season, when we are surrounded by so many tempting snacks, it’s challenging to maintain your self-discipline, and oh so easy to gorge on fat or sugar-laden treats. Wasted calories, they’re called, although only wasted on reflection, they’re delicious at the time.
I was recently sent a lovely selection of Simplyseedz products. The assortment contained something to start your day correctly and something to graze on.
Starting your morning with the right breakfast can curb hunger pangs later in the day. This range of vegan porridges makes life very easy indeed. Simply add boiling water and wait. You could even make life easier still by making it ‘Bircher-style’ by adding cold water and fruit juice and leaving it to stand overnight.
I don’t eat many flavoured porridges, so I was delighted when I discovered this range is not overly sweet. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, it’s obviously far easier to add a sweetener than it is to reduce the sweetness of a product. From Simplyseedz range of porridge pot flavours, I was sent Dark Chocolate and Ginger, Apple and Cinnamon Porridge, Apricot and Cranberry Porridge and a Plain Porridge. All were delicious and so convenient. If you haven’t got time for breakfast at home, you could always keep a few of these pots at work.
Baked and Seasoned Pumpkin Seeds
Tucking into a small pot of vegan approved, baked pumpkin seeds might not be everyone’s idea of a fulfilling snack (and I must admit, by description alone, it wasn’t mine) however once you try this range of, seasoned seeds I suspect you might change your mind.
The plump seeds are baked with seasoning but with no added oil. I was sent a sample of Mediterranean Herb and Mixed Peppercorn. Both varieties (in 40g pots) were very crunchy and not overpowered by the flavourings. To me, they were as moreish as any bag of crisps. My favourite of the two was the Mediterranean Herb. Personally, I would eat these as a healthy snack, but they can be sprinkled over salads etc.
Have a look on Simplyseedz website to see the entire range of seasonings (Jalapeno & Kaffir Lime, and Hot Chilli especially caught my eye).
It’s worthwhile spending some time on the Simplyseedz website. You’ll find details of their entire range of products (not only individual pots of snacks and oats but catering packs, teas and coffees, porridge cartons, there’s even a subscription porridge club!
Among many interesting articles, there’s some information regarding the benefits of a vegan diet, together with recipe ideas and a profile of company founder Cathryn Zielinski.
These products would make ideal Christmas stocking fillers, or if you’re considering joining in with Veganuary in 2021, why not stock up plenty of them for yourself?
