The Grove Theatre in Dunstable is a great venue, especially to watch live music in. The seating is such that if you want to get up and have a boogie you can do without fear of falling into the next row :). I am a massive Ed Sheeran fan, so was delighted on my birthday weekend to go along and review the brand new show Shape of You The Music of Ed Sheeran at The Grove which is very local to us. There is good surrounding parking and amenities if you want to enjoy food or drink prior to the show. The theatre clearly had their air con on so immediately we walked in you felt comfortable, which was a relief on a very hot Saturday evening.
What an opening, you couldn’t fail from the first song to recognise this guy is a huge talent. Daniel East is a fantastic vocalist. So much more than a tribute act. He plays like Ed he looks like Ed, he’s humble like Ed. To be perfectly honest I had a better time than when I saw Ed Sheeran at Wembley. Everything you want to hear and more is in the show, personal favourites I was delighted to hear where Perfect, Supermarket Flowers, Photograph and the Joker & The Queen. What an incredible set. He nailed song after song, using the same loop pedal system as Ed Sheeran himself, along with an array of guitars. The lighting was some of the best I have seen for shows at the Grove, along with an ever changing backdrop, it all added to the experience. He gave background on nearly all the songs, so clearly takes pride in what he delivers so if you wasn’t a fan, you got a better understanding of Ed Sheeran himself and why or who he wrote certain songs about. He had us all in the audience eating out of the palm of his hand. The show is the ultimate night out for any Ed Sheeran fan, but even if you aren’t you couldn’t fail to enjoy overly minute of this energetic show.
We say all the time we miss live music, with talent like this touring the country we should all get out more! This should have been a packed out theatre, where were you all! You missed a fantastic band showcasing a fantastic artist. They were all outstanding and I love to see performers who clearly love what they are doing, they performed their hearts out it was an absolute pleasure to watch and be part of. There was a lively, to say the least part of the crowd which might have got the better of some bands, but you played on and didn’t let them spoil the show for the rest of us.
We came out of the show smiling and had had the best night out for a long time. If you see this show performing anywhere near you buy tickets, you absolutely won’t be disappointed. We most certainly will look to see this again, it was brilliant.
