The Lost Girl by Sangu Mandanna Review

Reviewed by Louisa Nashir

This fabulous looking book was a welcome surprise before Christmas and it didn’t take long for me to read it.

The story is both gripping and quite sad but is also a fantastic read.

The books main character is Eva, a young girl who has no say in what happens with her life as she is an echo. An echo is an exact copy of someone else made in a factory by weavers and if that person dies the echo takes their place. Eva hates the fact she has no say in what happens to her or how to live her life.

Eva grows up learning to be her human Amarra with the help of Mina Ma her teacher and guardian. Eva is happy with Mina Ma and develops friendships along the way but she always knows that one day it could all be over if Amarra dies.

A few chapters in and Amarra is killed in a car accident and Eva is sent to live with Amarra’s family in India and take Amarra’s place alongside the family. Everything Eva has known suddenly changes and she finds herself in Amarra’s world.

From the very first day Eva hates it and soon realises she would rather live her own life than that of her human.

The only question is whether she will be brave enough to run away and face death from her weaver or will she stay and live as Amarra.

Definitely worth a read as the book will have you hooked!
