My friend and I went to opening night of Dreamboats and Petticoats at the Waterside Theatre in Aylesbury on Monday 20 February. The Waterside is easily located and a really lovely theatre with good parking and close to local restaurants. We arrived in good time, our seats were good and we sat waiting with anticipation. It was a very mixed aged audience, and we seemed to be the youngest!

The show tells the tale of loves first young dream through Bobby and Laura accompanied with a cracking set of songs. If you love the 60’s music, then this is the show for you. Set mostly in the local youth club in Essex, songs from the early 60’s take you on a wonderful journey.

The cast… Where to start? They were all super fab, Ray being our particular favourite, but all were great, with superb faultless voices. The main characters all had strong voices and never put a foot wrong. I think ‘Bobby’ would probably give a mean Franki Valli impersonation, he had a great voice!  Apart from when ‘Sue’s belt flew off mid-song, I don’t think anything went wrong. Personal favourite was when they sang ‘Poetry in Motion’ acapella style… so Pitch Perfect meets the 60s it was really fabulous. The fight scene was also well done, real life slow motion, brilliant!

The dancing the costumes… all brilliant. They were all great to watch. I think through the whole show there was only two songs I didn’t know, it was upbeat from the start and we were definitely singing and swaying along. Runaway/Whose Sorry Now also deserves a mention, really well sung by Bobby and Laura. Loved, loved, loved so many of the songs we had such a good time rocking and singing the show was over all too soon.

The finale was superb everyone was up on their feet and everyone clapping and dancing, I haven’t had that much fun for ages. I would most certainly go see this again and again… It was up there with Jersey Boys and Grease for me. Go buy a ticket you really won’t be disappointed!
