Rubik’s Junior Bunny Review

Reviewed by Sandip Stapleton

So nearly everyone one on the world knows what a Rubik’s cube is. Even my 2 kids, aged 5 and 8 know what they are, but obviously not from the 80s like their old mum and dad. Now, even at my age and with years of experience, I still can’t solve a Rubik’s Cube. I do have memories of peeling of the stickers and pretending I had solved it! My 8-year-old daughter has a Rubik’s Cube but luckily without the stickers! She also is unable to solve it but gives it a really good go. My 5-year-old boy also has a good try but unfortunately is out of his depth. Enter the Rubik’s Junior!

We were lucky enough to receive a Rubik’s Junior in the shape of a bunny. Which my 5-year-old thought was an Easter Bunny. The rest of the Rubik’s Junior Animal Collection includes the Bear, Bunny, Puppy & Kitten. And none with stick-on colours to peel and cheat with!

They are essentially like a simple Rubik’s cube but shaped like animals in 3 lines of 2 blocks. The bunny we had is nice and brightly coloured. Perfect for young kids. It’s a great way to introduce young children to a fun way of logical thinking and problem solving.

The kids instantly knew what they were doing and took to it straight away. We’ve had it for a few days and they have not got bored of it at all. Due to its size there are only a few combinations, but the kids don’t seem to mind this.

The ‘cube’ is well made, and the coloured sections spin well so the kids can do this on their own. They have enjoyed spinning the bear into different combinations and handing it to each other and timing how long they take to solve it. They also mix it up for me and their Daddy to do but it seems that I am still pretty rubbish at solving Rubik’s Cubes, even junior versions!

Because of their hand held size, a single piece with no loose parts, and the fact that they are smooth, wipeable plastic toys, they are a perfect toy to take out with you entertain the kids when you are in a situation where the kids can get easily bored like the car on a long journey, or waiting at the doctors surgery or restaurant.

I would say they are aimed at 4-6 year olds which makes them great for gifting to school friends for birthday presents, Christmas stocking presents and, in the case of our bunny, one as an Easter present.
