I am a keen walker, covering hundreds of miles a year on foot so a decent pair of walking boots is an absolute must for me. I have to say I was quite excited when I received the Regatta Women’s Edgepoint Waterproof Mid Walking Boots as these are a “Mid Boot” which I have been considering buying as they are the perfect choice for autumn adventures.

So, what is a Mid boot – the best way to describe them are a short boot or high shoe. The cuff around the ankle rises to around half the height of a ‘normal’ walking boot and offers extra support compared to a shoe.

I had a look at the Regatta website to find out more about the boots and Regatta describe them as a waterproof, breathable and comfortable boot. The boots have Isotex and Hydropel technology and are fully waterproof to prevent rain and splashes getting through. The boots are breathable which helps to keep feet fresh on a long hike. We frequently do walks over 10 miles so these features are really important as there is nothing worse than having either wet or sweaty feet on a walk!

The boots are available in four different colours, Navy/Petrol, Black Prune, Ash Granite and Granite Duchess, I received a Navy/Petrol pair and they look really smart, they are navy on the outside with a navy and petrol blue criss-cross pattern on the side. The lining is petrol blue and looks stunning against the navy. The boots are available in sizes 3 to 8 and I was really pleased to see that their size 8 is a EU42 which is a generous size 8. When buying shoes and boots I frequently find a size 8 is a EU41 which is too small for my big feet and I end up having to buy men’s boots which tend to be wider and not in the colours I would choose, so well done to Regatta for having women’s boots that actually fit me!

When you get a new pair of boots it is important to wear them in a little first, otherwise if you go on a long walk straight away you will invariable end up with blisters and sore feet – trust me I know this from past experience. I tend to wear them in the house for a couple of days and also do a few short walks in them before I attempt a long walk, this way I know they are comfortable and won’t give me painful blisters and spoil the walk.

So what are these boots like to wear? As soon as I put them on they felt comfortable, there is a nice padded collar around the ankle offering plenty of support and the moulded EVA footbed is firm and provided all-day comfort. The laces are long enough to tie a double bow, meaning that they don’t undo when you are walking. The boots have really good grip on the sole and I didn’t slip when going down steep downhills. The Isotex and Hydropel waterproofing coped really well on my favourite walk on the fells which can be a little wet and boggy, even on a nice day and part of the walk is up a stone path which does turn into a mini stream when the weather is bad. I haven’t had the chance to test them on many walks yet but I have been on the fells a couple of times and my feet were lovely and dry even on a wet day.

The boots were surprising light, they only weigh 867g so once I start travelling again, I can put them in my suitcase, rather than wearing them on the plane to save weight in my luggage.

I am really impressed with the boots, they are comfortable, supportive and look good too. Whether you are a keen walker or someone who just needs a sturdy pair of boots to walk the dog, these boots are perfect for both rugged terrain and country walks and I can highly recommend them
