My daughter and I were pleased as punch to be asked to review a Pomsies cuddly toy. As a cat-obsessed four-year-old, this was right up her street! Pomsies are essentially interactive, wearable pom-pom cats — soft, colourful, and jam-packed with personality.
We didn’t have to wait long at all for the Pomsies to arrive; we received ‘Skye’ which is the pastel coloured Pomsie (in pink, yellow, lilac and white). There are 2 other characters in the range – ‘Roxy’ (bright pink, white and yellow) and ‘Mist’ (predominantly blue, white and yellow).
Our Pomsie arrived in a vibrant pink box, cleverly designed to resemble a handbag — complete with the Pomsie’s tail as the handle. I was genuinely impressed by the thoughtful packaging; it added a touch of charm and made the product feel that little bit more special. The little Pomsie’s face was poking out of the side of the box, so you could see exactly what it looked like.
The toy was securely fastened with plastic tags, which took a little effort to release — but once freed, we found a cute pink hairbrush and an instruction sheet tucked inside.
“Why would you need an instruction sheet?” I hear you wonder; well, let me tell you, Pomsies feature over 50 interactive features. To get the Pomsies to start interacting, you simply press the cute little heart-shaped nose. Once activated, the Pomsies eyes change colour – in fact there are 6 different colours, which have different meanings. For example, teal eyes mean the Pomsies are happy and Green means they have hiccups. Best of all, the instructions clearly explain how to respond to each colour to keep your Pomsie content.
There are two modes of play: Pet Mode, as described above, and Freeze Dance Mode, which is activated by pressing the nose for one second until the eyes turn purple. When the whistle blows, you shake your Pomsie and the music speeds up — then freeze when the whistle sounds again. It’s a fun twist that adds movement and giggles to playtime.
You can also send your Pomsie to sleep by pressing the nose for three seconds — a handy feature for winding down, especially since there’s no volume control. As charming as the sounds are, I’ll admit that after a while (from an adult’s perspective), they can get a little repetitive!
The Pomsies operate on 1 x AAA battery, which is included and is always a nice touch these days, as it’s not so common anymore.
We especially loved the position able tail, which allowed my daughter to wrap Skye around her arm, shoulder, chair, or bed. It made the toy feel more like a companion than just a toy.
With an RRP of £19.99, I think it’s a reasonable price for an interactive toy of this kind. A quick internet search at the time of review showed several outlets selling them for £14.99 — great value, especially as a Christmas gift. I’ll definitely be recommending Pomsies to friends and family as a fun, affordable gift idea
The product is aimed at children aged 3+, which feels spot-on. My daughter, nearly 4, quickly grasped the concept of the eye colours and how to care for her Pomsie. Even my 7-year-old son got involved, helping his sister figure things out and enjoying the playtime together.
My children have thoroughly enjoyed playing with the Pomsies so far, brushing it’s lovely soft hair and caring for it. (Our cat has also enjoyed a well-deserved rest, as their attention has been drawn away from him!)
