OXO Tot Twist Top Water Bottle Review

Reviewed by Louise Watts

The school summer holidays are now upon us and as mums we are already looking for back to school bits! New uniform, new shoes, new book bags, lunchboxes and beakers for the all-important drink of water throughout the school day.

I have 4 children, the youngest of whom has just finished reception and I have had years of experience of leaking drinks that get everywhere! How does this happen? I am forever searching for the ideal cup that won’t leave their books all soggy.

Well I may have just found the answer. I have been testing the OXO Tot Twist Top Water Bottle for the past week. I have tested it with my son (aged 5 years) with a plan for it to be his school water bottle and my daughter (aged 16 years) who went to a festival last week and needed a water bottle that she could attach to her bum bag. Read on to find out my verdict…

The OXO Tot Twist Top Water Bottle is marketed as being suitable for aged 2 years plus. I assume this is because it requires the child to be able to suck the water through the attached straw. Do not be put off by the fact it is called OXO Tot as it is certainly suitable well past the “Tot” phase!

When the beaker arrived, my first impression was how robust it looked. I tried the blue (Aqua) coloured model which was lovely. The lid was a lovely shade of blue and the clear beaker itself was tinged blue also. It was a subtle shade and therefore would be completely suitable for any child of any gender. The lid is made of tough stuff and needs a twist motion to expose the straw, which is made of very good quality flexible plastic which certainly looks as though it will be long lasting. The beaker can hold 350ml of fluid (12 fluid oz) which is a perfect size for a day at school.

Washing is easy. You can either hand wash in warm soapy water or use the top rack of the dishwasher. It is not suitable for steam sterilising (but you would not be doing this at the age of 2 anyway). The parts are easy to dissemble and reassemble again after washing so it is easy to keep the beaker clean and fresh between uses.

When you are not using the straw, you simply twist the lid and it seals the beaker. On the packaging it says “Leakproof when closed”. This is quite a statement in my eyes having tried many leakproof cups before! This week however I can truly say that if the lid is closed, this beaker is leakproof!! My son loved using his new beaker and will most definitely be taking it to school in September (if he hasn’t used it to death over the summer!)

My daughter wanted to take a water bottle to her festival that she could attach to her bum bag and therefore not have to carry around in her hand. She took the OXO Tot as it has a god sized tough handle that she could slip the waistband of her bum bag through. Having used the water bottle for a few days, she said it was perfect. A perfect size, not too bulky and easy to attach. I have a feeling I will be either buying another bottle or wrestling it from her to give back to my son!”

Th OXO Tot Twist Top Water Bottle is available from many online sites and retails around the £8 mark. It is available in 3 colours – blue, pink and green. It comes with a 2 year guarantee which in my opinion is amazing considering the price is itself very reasonable.

I would thoroughly recommend this beaker to any parent who is on the quest to find the ultimate leakproof water bottle for school use or everyday use – you will not be disappointed.
