Orchard Toys Can You Guess? Review

Reviewed by Tracey Flintham

Can You Guess? is an interactive game for players aged 4 to adult. The game comes in a compact box which is easily opened and everything fits back in allowing for easy storage. The instructions are also written in an easy to read manner.

After reading the instructions, we were ready to play. The game requires hardly any setting up which is good when you have small children with a limited time span and I’m sure lots of parents will relate to the problem that by the time some games are set up the children have already lost interest. The score cards are all different colours allowing for learning or re-enforcing colours. The game involves taking a turn on the spinner, which relates to picking an “Action” card, “Sound” card or “Performance” card. The cards are all colour coded too, which again allows colour and pattern recognition. The idea of the game being that the other players have to guess what is being acted, performed or the noise.

The sound cards have a variety of different animals and vehicles which young children will all be familiar with, such as cow, sheep, bee, dog, lion and then fire engine, car and train. With the action cards you have to make no sounds and perform the actions for a variety of everyday activities such as sleeping, brushing your hair, reading or cooking. The performance cards allow you to use sound and action for people to guess and include characters such as pirates, ghosts, dinosaurs and chickens.

Once everyone has had 6 turns, the game is over and the person who has guessed the most correctly wins.

The game with its simple format is easy for young children to follow and with the interactive element keeps their attention for the duration of the game. There were lots of laughs and giggles especially when someone picked the performance card. My only criticism of the game is that over time it might become very repetitive as there are only 18 cards within each category. But all in all, it is a fun way for young children to learn colours and learn to interpret pictures into sounds and actions. I have already looked at other games within the Orchard Toys range and will be buying them in the future for Christmas or birthday presents.
