Orchard Toys New Baby Lotto Review

This lovely game is a great way for an older child to discuss a new baby and is perfect for my nearly 4 year old son. The moment I opened the box he was grabbing for the cards and chose his favourite saying ‘I’m going to have this one because I’m going to have a baby soon!’

The game is a simple lotto format with 4 large cards showing a baby on each and a number of items that relate to a certain activity, eg. Feeding time, bath time etc… and the simplest way to play is to turn all the individual pieces upside-down and take it in turns to pick one out until someone has filled their board with all the relevant matching pictures.

I found this game extremely useful for opening a dialogue about the new baby – what it will be doing, how my son can help, what items he can share such as bath toys and teddies. We discussed items that will shortly be brought down from the loft for baby and what new things we should buy. It was a delight to be playing a game together and simultaneously talking about the exciting new addition to our family.

I have a couple of Orchard Toys games and this one is absolutely in keeping with the combination of education and fun that all their products reflect. They demonstrate a high quality of design with strong, gloss cards that are likely to last a very long time to come. I would definitely recommend this to anyone with young children, especially those expecting a new arrival – it’s perfect for building understanding of everything the new baby will bring!
