Brendan Cole: All Night Long at the Festival Theatre Edinburgh Review

Reviewed by Emily Crombie
Brendan Cole’s 2017 show, All Night Long was performed at the Festival Theatre in Edinburgh last night as part of his tour, which continues across the country until the 2nd April 2017.
As one of the professional dancer on Strictly Come Dancing, the show has a real strictly theme. Not only does it showcase many of the classic Ballroom and Latin dances such as the Rumba, Salsa, Waltz, Tango, Jive and Charleston but the show is linked by chat from Brendan about the contestants and what happens behind the scenes.
The eight dancers led by Cole and his partner Faye Huddleston are supported by at 12-piece band under the direction of musical director Barry Robinson. The band is very much part of the show as are the singers, Iain MacKenzie and Julie Maguire, who sing hit after hit including Can’t Stop the Feeling, Skyfall, Nine to Five and of course All Night Long.
This show moves smoothly between upbeat and slow numbers. My personal favourite was Fields of Gold to which Brendan and Faye dance a very sweet and beautiful Rumba. My daughter on the other hand, enjoyed the upbeat tempo of the Charleston (The Charleston) and she also love the American Smooth (Don’t Rain on my Parade).
All Night Long is a two-hour escape and has the full package – song, dance, humour and fabulous costumes. It’s is a fantastic show from start to end and really has something for everyone.
The Festival Theatre is situated on Nicolson Street in the City centre which is within walking distance of the train and rail stations and also the trams. The theatre itself is has a modern facade and foyer but it’s traditional inside with seating over three levels. It is very accessible with wide staircases and lifts. The staff were friendly and helpful.
