Sleep is an invaluable part of our day, without it we wouldn’t be able to function properly. It refreshes the mind and body and apart from that, is very enjoyable. Having the perfect pillow for the way you sleep is a must, so is the perfect duvet. But what happens when you and your partner are in constant duvet wars? In our house one of us is always too hot, too cold or pulling the duvet away from the other (and we have a King Size duvet on a double bed so really shouldn’t be an issue, but it is). nanu, the sleep specialists, have come up with a perfect and unique idea – the Hot&Not duvet!
So what is the Hot&Not duvet? How is a duvet going to solve the different sleeping temperatures of two people in a bed? It is quite simple really, it is basically two different tog duvets sown together to create one with a different tog rating on each side. How simple is that? And what a great idea!
While that all sounds perfect, before you start building your perfect split weight duvet there is a limitation. You can’t have a toasty 13.5 tog on one side with an extra cool 4.5 tog on the other. nanu have four categories for the levels of comfort and each side must be an adjacent level to the other: i.e. if you want a 13.5 tog on one half, you have to have a 10.5 tog on the other half. The comfort levels are:
- toasty – 13.5 tog
- cosy – 10.5 tog
- chilled – 7.5 tog
- extra cool – 4.5 tog
The duvet configuration you can have are:
- toasty & cosy / cosy & toasty
- cosy & chilled / chilled & cosy
- chilled & extra cool / extra cool & chilled
Configuring your duvet is easy as the nanu website has a simple duvet builder tool on their website.
- First you select if you want the Hot&Not Duvet or Classic Duvet
- Second you select Double or King Size
- Third you select what comfort levels you want for each side of the bed using a slider bar (it doesn’t let you choose a configuration that isn’t available such as toasty and extra cool)
- Finally, you are asked to confirm size and what comfort level is for each side of the bed
We opted for toasty left side (13.5 tog) with cosy right side (10.5 tog). Now we just had to wait for delivery (free delivery is 5-7 working days or £3.95 for express delivery is 2-3 working days). My only concern was how would we know which side was which when coming to put it on the bed.
It arrived within the specified time frame and comes in its own quite cool drawstring bag (can be used again to store other duvets or even as a laundry bag should you wish).
On removing the duvet from the bag you can feel the quality of the duvet. It is made with a microfibre cover and hollowfibre filling. And the best part is that the filling is made from recycled plastic bottles (each nanu duvet stops 17 plastic bottles going to landfill).
As I mentioned earlier, my concern was how would we know which side was which. Well I didn’t need to worry as there are 2 very easy ways to tell each side apart. The Hot&Not duvet comes with tags on each side to indicate which side is which. But the easiest way of telling the sides apart is much more visual, the side with the most stitched channels is the cooler side (on ours the warmest side was constructed of 2 panels while the cooler side had 7 or 8 smaller panels).
The sizing was correct and fit our bedding perfectly. Sleeping under it was great. While I was toasty all night, my partner didn’t need to sleep on top of the duvet to cool down (and there was less pulling of the duvet to one side – hopefully reducing the duvet wars!).
Overall, we found this to be a great quality duvet that was tailored to suit our needs (we might need another lighter one for summer though). As it is brand new we haven’t needed to clean it yet but it can be machine washed on a gentle cycle at 40 degrees and tumble dried on a cool setting.
As it is nearly Christmas, giving the gift of sleep with the perfect duvet would make a good present. But why wait? I would highly recommend it and recommend getting one tailored for you and partner straight away so you can enjoy a good night’s sleep together.
So when it comes to a good night’s sleep, are you going to be Hot or Not!
RRP: £50 to £75
