My children have grown up watching the brilliant festive 2009 film Nativity; it’s a family favourite of ours, so we were super excited to get the chance to review the ‘Nativity! The Musical’ live at the Aylesbury Waterside Theatre. We have visited this theatre many times, it’s a great venue. It’s situated in the centre of Aylesbury, easy to find, and surrounded by a good choice of bars and nice places to dine before the show. Parking couldn’t be easier; the nearest car park is just across the road, dead opposite the theatre. The theatre is well designed and very modern. There is a large bar in the reception area, with a nice atmosphere. We found that all the drinks were reasonably priced. The whole theatre is quite big, even our seats were spacious. We were shown to our seats by a friendly and polite member of staff.  The seats were very comfortable and we had a great view. As we waited for the show to start, we could see the theatre was buzzing and filling up quick. The show started just after 7pm. From the minute it started we could tell it was going to be a great show.

‘Nativity! The Musical’ tells an all-singing and all-dancing story of a heart broken Coventry primary school teacher, Mr Maddens (played by Scott Garnham), with the help of his hilarious teaching assistant, Mr Poppy (played by the very funny Scott Paige), to create a Nativity with the help of their students, with a twist involving a Hollywood movie.

This energetic show certainly has that feel good factor. We laughed and we cried! The sets were sparkly, the costumes were bright and brilliantly OTT.

The entire cast were fantastic, but the St Bernadette’s children deserve a special mention, they did an awesome job. They were talented, confident and super cute! Also praise must go to Mr Poppy, who we thought stole the show.

The music was great, it included hit songs Sparkle and Shine, Nazareth, One Night One Moment and She’s The Brightest Star. We absolutely loved it.

The finale was spectacular. The whole audience were clapping along, and really enjoying themselves and it was great to see the cast receive a very well-deserved standing ovation.

Nativity! The Musical is a cracker of a show and is not to be missed, whether you have seen the film or not. You are in for a real treat.
