The Pixie And The Pudding is the latest production to hit the stage at the Little Angel Studios. This festive production is based on a Scandinavian folklore story.
It was refreshing to see a Christmas production that wasn’t pantomime style or involving familiar characters such as a Prince, Princess or a beanstalk.
The production is 100% aimed at children in every sense.
The general gist of the story is that on Christmas Eve, a pudding should be left out for the Pixies in exchange for their magic to bring prosperity to the following year. The farmer in the story decided to retire and sell the farm to a family wanting to escape city life. He left a letter to the new owners with wise words of wisdom to follow, but unfortunately, the new farmer didn’t believe in Pixies and had a year of bad luck.
I won’t spoil the ending for you…..!
The puppet pixies and puppet animals which include a dog, hen & cow to name a few looked very realistic and were beautifully made. The interaction between the actors and the puppets was smooth, with seamless transitions between the characters.
The set was simple but more than adequate with well throughout pieces of set that were multifunctional. This kind of added to the simplistic Scandinavian feel.
Light changes, music, the songs and the flurry of snow all added to the atmosphere and helped bring the story to life.
My 5yr old and a couple of other children commented that the Pixie didn’t look very happy, and they were a little scared of him. I do agree that the Pixie could look more friendly. However, this didn’t spoil their enjoyment of the performance.
The Little Angel Studios are super child friendly and relaxed; no one will disapprove of a child making a sound or having a little fidgeting in their seat.
The seating was a mix of comfy-tiered benches and chairs. The theatre is small and personal, so it doesn’t feel overwhelming or crowded at all. Wherever you sit, you will have a great view.
The studios are fully accessible, with a lift to the theatre and a disabled bathroom.
The staff can’t be more helpful and welcoming.
