Magic Returns to Buxton: Cahoots NI And Buxton Opera House Reunite For The Sorcerer’s Apprentice
GUEST POST
A world of enchanted forests, snowy skies, and dancing northern lights is coming to the stage as Cahoots NI and Buxton Opera House announce their newest collaboration, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. The visually spectacular family production will run at Buxton Opera House from Tue 2 – Sat 6 June 2026. In association with New York companies New 42 and the New Victory Theater, the show arrives as a fully realised production following a successful development run in Belfast in 2024. Following its Buxton engagement, the production is scheduled to head to The Big Apple.

The story centres on Gunda, an ordinary schoolgirl who discovers an extraordinary power within herself. When the great Sorcerer begins searching for an apprentice, Gunda must face fierce competition and a daring challenge to save her family and claim her destiny. Directed by Paul Mc Eneaney, Artistic Director of Cahoots NI, the production blends live magic, original music, and imaginative storytelling to celebrate the joy of discovering the extraordinary within ourselves. Mc Eneaney highlighted that this production builds upon Cahoots and Buxton Opera House’s successful collaboration last year on The Vanishing Elephant. He noted that this ongoing partnership with the Derbyshire theatre has helped shape the show into an “even more visually striking and immersive theatrical experience”.

This production is made possible through the generous support of Arts Council England and Culture Ireland.

Tickets for the production are on sale now, starting from £25.50, with an age guidance of 6+. For more information or to book, audiences can contact the Box Office at 01298 72190 or visit buxtonoperahouse.org.uk.
