Why October Half Term is a Great Opportunity for a Family Holiday

Didn’t get chance to jet off on holiday this summer? Don’t worry, there’s still time to enjoy a family holiday before the year is out.

The October half terms provides the perfect opportunity to get away. There are a lot of reasons why travelling during the October half term can be a better experience than travelling during summer. Here, you’ll discover why the October half term is a great opportunity for a family holiday.

It’s cheaper

Summer holidays may promise spectacular weather, but they also come with a pretty expensive price tag. The cost of family holidays skyrockets in the summer, costing potentially hundreds of pounds more than it would during other times of the year.

As October is later in the year, prices on week-long breaks are much cheaper. You can save further money for opting for a self-catering or camping holiday too. You’ll find great deals on camping holidays in Spain for example.

Most destinations will be quieter

As well as benefiting from cheaper prices, most destinations will also be much quieter than they are in summer. So, if you like to beat the crowds, taking the family on holiday in October is a great idea. This also places much less pressure onto the kids as they won’t be overwhelmed by large crowds.

Of course, it also means the queues for popular attractions won’t be as long either. This can be a nightmare during the summer.

Milder weather

Unlike the UK, other parts of Europe tend to remain mild during October. In fact, it’s common for temperatures to range from 16-23 Degrees Celsius depending upon where you go. This is great for those who find the hot summer weather difficult to handle. It’s hotter than the UK, but not too hot that you can’t enjoy it.

Breaking up the long back to school period

After the October half term, it’s quite a long wait for the kids until the Christmas holidays. If you didn’t manage to get away in summer, taking them away for the October half term can be great for their wellbeing. Holidays are known to benefit a child’s development, while also providing them with a fun distraction from school.

Breaking up the long period between October and Christmas can really give the kids something to look forward to. You also won’t have to deal with those constant “I’m bored” moans which are pretty much guaranteed when the weather is typically cold and rainy at this time of year.

As you can see, there’s lots of benefits which come from taking a family holiday during the October half term. You may even find you prefer holidaying at this time of year.
