LEGOLAND Windsor Review

Our party consisted of 2 adults and 2 very excited 5 year old girls. Once we arrived a little over an hour after opening, we picked up our tickets, which were pre-booked and only took a minute in the queue to collect, so pre-booking is advisable.  Although we didn’t need them we noticed LEGOLAND buggies available in singles and doubles available for hire (it’s a hilly place so if your little ones are no longer buggy users but are still likely to tire easily these are a fab option).

So off we set exploring.  It was a hot sunny Saturday and the last one of the summer holidays so it was extremely busy.  This did mean all queues for main rides were very long and queue times were generally shown as 30/45 minutes.  We found though, that they moved quickly and we often didn’t have to queue as long as anticipated.   You could hire a Q-Bot which enables you to book a place in a queue without physically queuing and losing precious time.  It then lets you know when to turn up for your ride.  Hire prices started at £15 per person, so for a family of four would be £60 plus you need to give your credit card details for a £50 deposit – only chargeable if damaged/lost.  I remain undecided on this I’m sorry to say.  It seems initially, a great idea to make better use of your time but perhaps could be perceived as an expensive way to queue jump?  That said there is an incredible amount to see and do here and we loved everything we managed to fit in to the 9 hours we were there.

So without further ado here’s what we saw:

Imagination Centre:
Sky Rider – a gentle overhead ride with great views
Lego Education Zone – great fun, building your own Lego models etc.

Miniland  – Lego versions of famous places such as Buckingham Palace, the London Eye etc and lots of well-known worldwide landmarks.  Lots of interesting facts and quizzical clues to keep the children amused.  They can even have a go at steering a Lego boat for a small fee.

Duploland:
Playtown –  there is a great play area, soft and safe for all children to let off a bit of steam.
Waterworks splash park looked like a great way to cool off on hot days (swimsuits /towels advisable).
Fairy Tale brook, I think was one of my personal favourites, take a ride in a leaf boat with Lego settings from various classic fairy tales, very cute.

Land of the Vikings:
Vikings River Splash – the wettest ride ever and fun, fun, fun!
Loki’s Labyrinth – get lost in the maize, with another chance to get wet if you fancy!
Longboat invader  and Spinning Spider, where you can choose a slow spin or a super-fast spinny spin which was our choice!

Pirates Landing:
Jolly Rocker – you need a strong stomach for this choppy ride
Pirate training Camp – great wooden play area based on a pirate ship, lets their imagination run wild.

Knights Kingdom:
The Dragon – our last ride of the day unfortunately but a great fast rollercoaster to go out on.

There are plenty of places dotted around the park to grab a bite to eat or drink.  We chose the Duplo family buffet for lunch which was a great choice.  Lots of variety from pastas and salad to fish and chips, so there’s something to suit all tastes for one fixed reasonable price.  There were also plenty of great areas to pitch up for those who prefer to take a picnic. We found the toilets to be clean, well kept and never too far away.  For the wet rides there were walk in driers around too.  Plus let’s not forget there are lots of photo opportunities and I really liked the fact you don’t have to pay as you go with the photos (you never know the next one might be better) or worry about carrying them around with you. There is a Roaming photo collection point near the entrance where you can view all your photos (you must make a note of the numbers and the ride name) and purchase your preferred choices from the day.

Did we have fun – bundles of it!
Would we go again – most definitely!

Rating: 5/5
