Kitchen Hacks Prep ‘n’ Store Avocado Set Review

Reviewed by Michelle Alexander

As soon as I saw the Kitchen Hacks Prep ‘n’ Store Avocado Set for review, I quickly put my name forward. You can imagine how happy I was to be told I was the chosen one.

It arrived well packaged and I couldn’t wait to start using it. I was more excited about the storage side of it as I usually only have half an avocado and struggle to find a way to keep the other half fresh, even the next day it goes discoloured and doesn’t look nice.

The Kitchen Hacks Prep ‘n’ Store Avocado Set from Prestige is a 5-in-1 gadget to which the idea is that it can do everything you could possibly want to do to an avocado:

1. Mash

2. Slice into pieces

3. Get the flesh out

4. Remove the stone

5. Cut the skin

You really need to use the tools whilst the avocado is still a little on the hard side, otherwise, if too soft, it will stick to the tools and will get very messy. Make sure the avocado is not too small, otherwise the green scoop doesn’t work, well but the yellow tool still works.

I was disappointed to learn that the lid isn’t as air tight on the box as I’d hoped it would be (I was hoping it would be air tight like a sandwich box), plus, with the lid not being air tight, there is a risk that it could get knocked off in a bag; so best to keep it for fridge use only.

The yellow tool has a fairly sharp and serrated plastic knife blade that enables you to cut your avocado in half (not suitable for young children who like to help in the kitchen, it might be plastic but it still grazed my skin when I tested it as my granddaughter loves to prep and cook). The blade is only long enough to reach to the stone inside the avocado and serves no other purpose. At the other end of the blade; is a fanned cutting section that is very effective at cutting out avocado and slicing it at the same time, again, if the avocado is too soft, it just goes to mush.

The green tool lets you carve out the whole of the fruit from inside your avocado and you can then mash it if you wanted to; using the bottom of it where the masher section is.  My only concern with that is you are holding the top of the tool where, inside the hole section are 4 blades (you use this to remove the stone) which you can see either side, so one slip and it could be dangerous.

I would usually use a sharp knife to remove the stone and a large dessert spoon to scoop it out in one swoop, so, this this kit will create more washing up.

Overall, a good idea and comes with a 2-year guarantee.
