We had the pleasure of attending the opening night of Kinky Boots at the Theatre Royal in Plymouth last night, red carpet as well as boots.

I can honestly say this show is one of the best I have ever seen, and I would not hesitate to see it again.

The music is written by Cyndi Lauper and is upbeat and uplifting and was perfectly performed by the orchestra.

Directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell the dance routines are amazing and will have you wondering how they are done so perfectly on such high heels.

The story is set in a Northampton struggling shoe factory who need to find a new product to produce to stop the factory closing.

After the death of his father it is down to Charlie (Joel Harper-Jackson) who plays the role wonderfully taking you right into the characters life as he tries to find a way to save things. He has a chance encounter with a drag queen Lola and his angels, and everything changes.

Lola is played by (Kayi Ushe) and he steals the show from the first moment you set eyes on him. His stage presence is amazing ,he has a wonderful voice and boy can he move on those heels so can the Angels who are played by Conner Collins, John J Dempsey, Damon Gould, Joshua Lovell and Chilshe Mondelle the dance routines and costumes are so well suited to the show.

Every aspect of life is played out on stage so brilliantly this is a show you really don’t want to miss; the theatre was full, and I can guarantee nobody went home disappointed.

The Theatre Royal is a modern bright and clean theatre whose staff are very knowledgeable and friendly.

There is a lovely well stocked coffee shop in the foyer, and it is easy to get to by public transport and there is plenty of carparks within walking distance if you’d like to drive.

5/5 for Kinky Boots from me, best fun and laughter I’ve had in a long time definitely a feel-good show.

Rating: 5/5
